The Problem:  

  • A Facility Maintenance Superintendent came to us after having 3 years of operational problems, having zero visibility into the health of their 5K EHT circuits. They knew they were overspending on non-productive labour hours with frustrated operations, team members and riddled with risks of operational upsets (freezes). The most frustrating part is they have a monitoring platform in place and an outside resource managing it on site.  

 

The Solution:  

  • After a quick facility assessment, we were able to see which areas we could improve. What we found:
    • 100 Forced on circuits resulting in over  1,196 MWH wasted on heat tracing that no longer needed to be forced on.  
    • An estimated $70,362 spent on power costs, or energy that could have been sold back to the grid.  
    • $300,000 EHT Monitoring Budget and $246,000 EHT Wasted Field Management costs  
  • Implement a SmartTrace system into the facility  

 

The Results:  

  • SmartTrace Management allowed us to reallocate man hours to other scheduled work, saving both time and resources. We were able to reduce their heat trace management budget from $300,000 to $75,000.  
  • SmartTrace Management provided clear notifications that make it easy to plan and schedule.  
  • Finally visibility on the overall health of their heat trace infrastructure related to systems that are important to them.

  • 85 initial work tickets eliminated  
  • 160 annual work tickets eliminated 
  • 966 hours  reduced in field team walk downs 
  • 416 hours networking controller hours reduced 
  • 12 forced on EHT  from 100   
  • Estimated 1,005 MWH saved  
  • An estimated $70,360+ power cost savings
